Aims and Objectives
And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. “ John 9:2-7 (Bible)
“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see” - Mark Twain
The language we use has an enormous impact on the way in which disabled people are perceived. The social model of disability says that it is not the disabled person that needs to be changed – it is the society. It is society’s physical and social barriers that disable, not a person’s impairment.
Disability is the loss or limitation of opportunities to participate in society on an equal level with others, due to society’s physical and social barriers.
